Beneath the lake the thunder rests: strong movement places itself below the joyous, and precisely that willingness of the powerful to serve calls forth following of its own accord.
The JudgmentFollowing has supreme success; perseverance brings reward, no blame. If you want others to follow you, you must first learn to follow: the time, the situation, and the people you hope to win. Following without sincerity becomes servility; that is why this success carries the demand of what is right.
The ImageThunder in the middle of the lake: the image of following. Thus the noble one goes indoors at nightfall, for rest and recovery. In autumn the thunder withdraws into the earth: strength that honors the season of rest is doubly available in spring. If you adapt to the rhythm, you never have to fight the clock.
InterpretationThe time asks you to move along: with the demands of the moment, with changed circumstances, with people you can only win by listening to them first. This sign appears when rigidly clinging to the old plan costs more than it yields, and when leadership only works through serving. The key sentence is the paradox of the Judgment: only those who can follow are followed. That takes inner certainty, because bending along without a core is wobbling. And it takes rest: if you yield to the time, you also grant yourself the evening. Flexibility here is not weakness but the condition for success, as long as the direction stays true.

perseverance brings good fortune; going out of the door and mixing with others brings achievement. The standard itself is shifting: what held yesterday holds differently today. Stay true to what is right, but do not draw your judgment from your own circle alone: step outside, listen to voices beyond your bubble, and let your convictions be tested. If all you hear is your own echo, in the end you follow nothing but yourself, and that is the worst guide in changing times.
Six in the second place
Attach yourself to the little boy and you lose the strong man.
You cannot hold on to everything: bind yourself to the easy, the flattering and the immature, and you naturally lose touch with what is valuable and demanding. Every bond costs time, and time that goes to the lightweight is taken from the essential. Look honestly at where your days and your loyalty flow: company is a choice, even when it disguises itself as chance.

Attach yourself to the strong man and you lose the little boy; through following, you find what you seek.
It is worthwhile to remain steadfast. This is the mirror line: choose what is valuable, and accept that it will cost you something familiar. Growth almost always charges a farewell as its entry fee: the old habit, the old crowd, the old version of yourself. That farewell may hurt; it is not a sign that you are choosing wrongly, but the bill of every real choice. In what you follow, you find what you seek.

Following creates success:
perseverance brings misfortune. Walking the path in sincerity brings clarity: how could there be blame in that? A following gathers, and with the following comes flattery: people follow you for what it earns them. Hold on to that standing as a possession and you spoil; see through it and continue your own way in sincerity, and you remain free. Popularity is information, not a compass. Test who is with you for the cause and who for the crumbs, and stay clear yourself about why you walk this road.
Nine in the fifth placeruling line
Sincere in what is good:
good fortune. Follow the best you know, not the best that happens to pass by: that single standard settles all the smaller choices by itself. With your heart bound to the truly good, little needs correcting along the way; the direction quietly straightens what the days bend. Ask yourself regularly what you are actually following right now: a goal, a habit, a fear, a person. And whether it is worth it.
Six at the top
Firm allegiance, and bound once again:
the king presents him to the Western Mountain. Loyalty at its height: even someone who has already withdrawn from active life is still sought out and asked, because his following was so genuine. To have followed like that, and to be followed like that, means being allowed to serve once more in something greater than yourself. Staying available for the essential, even beyond your active years, is the most beautiful form of following.
